Project Description

Sowing small sailor seeds

Teams of children build together a model of a sail-oar. The workshop introduces them to the major stages of shipbuilding, stimulates their manual dexterity and their ability to work in teams.

An initiative of

Jeunes Marins Urbains – 10,000 children on Saint-Laurent River. The human and technical experience that creates lasting social and maritime ties.

On a planet covered by 70% of water, it is not surprising to find that the dream of building a boat and navigating on it is almost as old as mankind. Today, the Montréal association Jeune Marins Urbains (JMU) uses the desire for construction and navigation as a tool for social and maritime reconciliation and invites adults and children to participate in a human and technical experience unique in the world. To begin collective construction of a fleet of ultra-light sails-oars, which are  technically and economically accessible, designed to significantly increase the number of adults and especially children with access to the Saint-Laurent River. The main goal is to create and increase social and maritime ties between citizens and the Saint-Laurent River.

Jeune Marins Urbains realized sails-oars and introduced more than 1,000 people to sails-oars boat navigation on Saint-Laurent River since 2015.
